Tales of the Pendragons “Gone”

Many years ago….

The night was cold with frigid winds that could take your breath away. A couple lay inside of their cabin next to the fire places. The man was white and hirsute with the hair upon his head shaped like wolf’s ears and he had deep piercing blue eyes. The woman was Native American with black hair with blue eyes.  Both of them shared a moment of deep passion that bonded their souls together forever in this hellish cold. It was a moment that was not supposed to be forgotten, yet it was. In that moment the couple lost everything including their memories and perhaps more.

Now…

It was midnight with every one set up in room of the X-Corp building. It was odd being in a place that was littered with death. But with barrier that Meri had placed over London down. The X-Men needed a place that was roomier and with people that were outside the barrier now flooding into the town. There was no room at club vampyre for them.

Lauren rolled around in her bed with sweat that glistened on her brow. She was in the midst of a fevered dream. One that would seemingly show her a glimpse of her past yet would disappear as soon as she awakened. She could see with such vividness a hirsute man standing in front of her with three claws protruding from between the knuckles on each hand. He wore a brown jacket with a fluffy white collar, blue jeans, and brown cowboy boots. She heard the man growl at the oncoming soldiers before he charged at them. Clawing and fighting his way through. The clothes changed on the man becoming a spandex costume that was yellow and blue. She witnessed him in a trance of some sort kill some one. It was a man who she barely recognized from the distance she was at. The scene changed yet again and Lauren found herself back in the tank that she woke up when Chamber saved her. She woke up startled as some of the pieces started to come back to her, but they left just as soon as she awoke. She got out of bed with nothing but the long tan shirt that barley covered her naked form as she headed to the bathroom. She splashed water on her face a few times and took a couple of deep breaths before she went back into her room to lie back down.

The next morning…

Lauren made her way down the stairs and as she yawned her shirt drew up. Drawing glances from Mimic and Hudson who sat the table eating breakfast.

“Um, Lauren we have company,” Mimic said.

Lauren looked at Hudson and winked at him before replying,” I can see that.”

Mimic shook his head before continuing his chat with Hudson,” Anyways Amanda told us that apparently some one placed Meri in that crept in order to channel some of the energies from the black mass barrier into him. So that he could cut off London and consolidate it as a base of power, but for who she didn’t know.”

“How did she find this out?” Hudson asked.

“A spell of truth or some such,” Lauren said as she filled her mug full of some brewed coffee,” It apparently shows events hidden by lies and deceit.”

Hudson rubbed his chin taking this all in, “So just what else do we know of what this Meri did?”

“It seems when he encircled London it was sometime during an event called the Jasper warp. How no one noticed that we were trapped in here is puzzling,” Mimic said

“So all this time we’ve been stuck behind an unbreakable barrier and not a damn one of these so called heroes have tried to free us?” Chamber said as he walked,” It’s a damn crying shame.”

Lauren sat beside Mimic. Her left hand ran down his leg as she took a big sip of her coffee. Mimic felt her hand and politely moved it as he continued talking with Hudson.

“We’re basically starting back at square one Hudson. This Pendragons group I have been hearing about has mostly been seen away from the London area,” Mimic said, “I wonder if there is more going on here then meets the eye. It seems some one wanted to cut us off from the rest for some kind of unforeseen purpose.”

Hudson finished his glass which contained a brownish substance and after setting it down he turned back towards Mimic, “Why does this concern us?”

“Well for one thing, a lot of the teams that have been showing up have been taking root in London, but since our reemergence they seem to be uprooting and moving on. Which means we are left with protecting London ourselves,” Mimic replied, “That and who ever had us trapped in that damnable orb wanted to make sure that we would not get in their way. It makes me think there was purpose for us getting together aside from the people needing us.”

“I see. This is why you called me here today so as you hoped I may join your X-Men,” Hudson said with Mimic’s intentions finally dawning on him.

“Yes. I was hoping you would so are numbers and strength would be at a considerable level for whatever threats may arise including the mastermind behind our mysterious abduction,” Mimic replied after taking another sip of his coffee.

“I’ll think about it,” Hudson said as he stood up to leave, “Good day to you all.”

“Good day to you too,” Lauren said as she grabbed Calvin causing him to yelp.

Upstairs…

Kurt was kneeled in front of his bed in prayer. A necklace with a cross on it was firmly grasped in his hands as he asked god to look over the souls of those who were already dead and those whom are dying. Once he finished he rose to his feet and he found Marrow standing at his doorway.

“What are you doing here?” Kurt asked the purple skinned long haired beauty.

“I just want to say that I’m glad you’re back. Calvin feels more confident with you around as he believes you were the soul of the X-Men,” Marrow replied with her fingers tracing the cross on the door.

“I’m not so sure about that, but that does not excuse your behavior towards me or the things you have done,” Kurt said as he put the necklace back around his throat.

“I thought you were a person who believed in redemption. Can you not see I’m trying?” Marrow asked. A look of sensitivity crossed her face as Kurt’s words stung her heart.

Kurt sighed, “I do believe people can change, but you have done so much and caused so much pain. I’m not ready to forgive you yet.”

Marrow stormed down the hallway brushing past Cecilia on her way.

“What was she so upset about?” Cecilia asked as walked up to Kurt’s room.

“I believe she is discovering that bridges are easily burned and not so easily mended,” Kurt said metaphorically.

“Uh huh,” Cecilia replied lost at what lesson Marrow was just beginning to learn.

Chamber was in the midst of town straddled on a bench playing with a guitar that a wood carver had made for him. He ran his fingers along its fine smooth texture that was perfectly smoothed out. He fiddled with the guitar strings playing a ramble of different keys before playing a unique number that danced across his mind. It was melody that was soft like smooth silk and gently rode the winds of the fair town. Everyone in earshot of the number that Chamber was playing walked up to him. All of the people were of different ages from the elderly to children of no more then pre teen years. Every one of them was of different shapes and sizes including hair and eye colors, but they all seemed to be entranced by the same song. Some stood in silence while others tried to find a place to take seat to listen to Jono play.  And so Jono continued to play on blissfully unaware of his audience until his performance hit a crescendo.  He looked at the people who gathered to hear him play and almost stopped, but they urged him on and on he continued. His heart and soul were as one as the musical number reached its final dramatic conclusion. The crowd that had gathered around Jono cheered as aloud as they possibly could and he smiled at their sentiments.

Lauren looked playfully at Calvin who was at the moment practicing and honing his mimicked powers as he did every day since he had awakened. She had finally got cleaned up and got dressed after Cecilia had come down downstairs. Lauren thought it was funny seeing the look on Cece’s face when she saw Lauren in the buff and on top of Calvin trying to subvert him into brief affair of sexual lust.  As Lauren admired Calvin from a distance a bone shard landed four inches from her face.

“He’s mine bitch,” Marrow said.

“So? I don’t see a problem,” Lauren said as she stood eye to eye with Marrow.

“Well I do it means no second rate Canadian runt can touch him,” Marrow spat as she sized Lauren up.

“Wanna try me? Just go ahead and I will make you regret it,” Lauren said as she stuck out her chin, “I’ll even give you a free shot.”

“Knock it off you two,” Mimic said as he noticed what was going on, “We don’t need dissention in the ranks.”

“What? we don’t need is this stupid bitch,” Marrow said.

Lauren shoved Marrow to the ground and as Marrow got back up Mimic appeared between them.

“I said enough and enough means enough. Now I know you two don’t like each other, but you at least have to get along if we are going to be able to protect these people,” Mimic said.

“The hell I have to get along with this skank and since you can’t back me up Calvin I’m gone. When you finally grow a pair let me know,” Marrow said as she took off.

Mimic looked at Lauren, “Just what did you do to set her off?”

“Nothing,” Lauren replied nonchalantly.

“Yeah nothing seems to be another thing you’re good at,” Mimic spat before he walked off.

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Lauren said as she now stood alone.
