History:
In Rathoon's own words:
"My people once ruled the heavens and the earth. When man rose up and began his slow march to dominance, there were some amongst us who warred with them. They cast mighty, awful magicks against humanity -- and it was only through an alliance between the good-hearted dragons and mankind that the evil members of my kind were slain. But there were many humans who still distrusted us, who still feared our power. As a gesture of goodwill, we took all the magick from our kind and bound it up inside something called the Dragonstone. To protect it from being used against us or mankind, we created the Council of the Wyrm to protect it. I was a member of that august body and I slept nestled up alongside the Dragonstone, waking only when the great stone was threatened."
In fact, Rathoon awakened to find that the Dragonstone had been stolen right from under him. The dragon claimed that during his long sleep, his dreams had carried him out into the world of man -- he had become so enraptured in these dreams that he had failed to notice the theft. Rathoon sought out the Pendragons for help in retrieving the stone. This took them to Paris, where they clashed with members of the Scriers Cult and the Dark Parliament. In the end, the stone was destroyed and the magic that was held within was spilled out into the world once more.
Despite his failure, Rathoon would not give in to despair. As a member of the Pendragons, he forged close friendships with Izzy Sinclair (aka Tina Thunderfist) and entered into a romantic relationship with the alien dragon known as Fin Fang Foom. He still feels out of place in this new world, but has adopted its vernacular as best he can (current favorite catch-phrase: "Who's your daddy?").
