Powers: Jack O'Lantern uses a mix of technology and Black Mass Barrier-induced magic to accomplish her objectives. Her control over magic is still at a basic level but she has been seen to create clouds of smoke and teleport across small distances. Her primary weapons are a flying platform, explosive bombs and energy blasters.

History: Maguire Beck was the cousin to Quentin Beck, the original Mysterio. Quentin taught Maguire a good bit about stage magic and the creation of realistic illusions. After Quentin's death, she and Danny Berkart (another pupil of Quentin's) used the abandoned Jack O'Lantern identity (originally created by mercenary Jason Macendale) to terrorize New York and seek revenge upon Quentin's old enemy, Spider-Man. During this time, Maguire usually remained behind the scenes, crafting the illusions that Danny used in battle. 

Eventually, Berkart took up Quentin's old identity as the new Mysterio and left the Jack O'Lantern equipment in Maguire's care. She continued to play the role for a time, calling herself Mad Jack to further confuse her opponents, all of whom believed her to be a man -- the thick padding of the costume and her various illusions serving to hide her true gender.

After numerous defeats in the United States, Maguire journeyed to Europe to take up a post with the Vixen's criminal organization. She was trapped under the Black Mass Barrier when it was raised and found herself altered by the now magic-rich environment. She became adept at using magic to bolster her illusions and has shown signs of growing aptitude as a magician.

Armed with new confidence, Jack O'Lantern was charged with destroying the Pendragons before they could lay waste to the Vixen's cartel. She kidnapped Cam McClellan, luring the Pendragons into a trap. Unfortunately for her, the heroes proved too much for her increased abilities and Jack was forced to flee.

Maguire laid another ambush some time later, this time backed up by nearly two dozen armed mercenaries. Once again, the Pendragons defeated her and Maguire was turned over to the authorities. She would have languished there for some time had the second Lady Mandarin not freed her from incarceration. Maguire was offered the chance to join the Emissaries of the Dark in exchange for her soul. Not really believing in such things, Maguire accepted the offer and became a thrall of the Bane. 

In this role, Jack O'Lantern battled the Pendragons once more -- this time in Paris, where the Emissaries were trying to gain control of a mystic artifact known as the Dragonstone. Maguire was captured once more in this failed attempt.

Months later, Jack O'Lantern was freed once more and returned to mercenary work. She had the misfortune of encountering Adam Crown and Breeze while on one of her missions and was badly beaten by an angry Crown. Maguire was imprisoned in a facility where she was subjected to painful experimentation. While there, she encountered Tara Grimshaw, who would become the new Toro. After her escape, she went on to serve in another incarnation of the Emissaries, successfully wounding the dragon Rathoon and allying with Kulan Gath in an attempt to revive the Red Lord of the Bane.
