Dark Angel

Real Name: Shevaun Haldane

Class: Altered Human

Occupation: Adventurer

Affiliations: Member of Pendragons

Scale of Operations: Europe

Powers: Shevaun has a number of cosmic powers as a result of bonding with a piece of the Fabric of the Universe. She is able to fly, control her density, control various wavelengths of energy, open up dimensional portals and read the minds of others. In addition, Dark Angel is a moderate-level sorceress and can cast spells on the fly. She also gains control over her abilities from the protective armor she wears over the Fabric. The armor actually limits her power levels to a degree, preventing her from accidentally losing control of the celestial forces at her command. Finally, Dark Angel has a seldom-used gun called a Graviton Phase Blast. This weapon can speed up or slow down time, as well as emit a powerful energy blast.

History:

Daughter of Mys-Tech board member Ranulph Haldane, Shevaun found herself orphaned after her father was killed by the demon Mephisto, who had granted Ranulph and the other Mys-Tech board members immortality in exchange for meeting certain quotas with regards to souls sent to Hell. With Ranulph attempted to circumvent this agreement, Mephisto slew the man while Shevaun watched from afar.

As the Chief Researcher for Mys-Tech, and the most accomplished Techno-Wizard on the board, Ranulph made sure that his daughter's education in the art of Hi-Tech Mysticism was second to none. Though he kept secret from her the details of Mys-Tech's connections to Mephisto, she felt responsible for the evil her father and his friends committed and swore that she would see Mys-Tech destroyed.

This vow was made possible by the intervention of a being known as Darkangel, the Angel of Death. This being appeared before Shevaun and donated a fragment of the Fabric of the Universe, which attached itself to her flesh and became her costume. Contact with such a powerful element of the universe opened her mind to new possibilities and granted her enormous cosmic powers. As Hell's Angel, Shevaun battled the forces of Mys-Tech for many months, gaining tutelage under Prof. Xavier's X-Men and forming a close friendship with Betsy Braddock. She frequently adventured alongside a Guide from the spirit realm at this time and spent a good deal of this period going to and from the Realm of Dead Superheroes, where she sometimes gained aid.

Eventually, Shevaun came to the conclusion that Darkangel had manipulated her and not told her certain details of her powers intentionally. As a result, she abandoned the name he had given her (Hell's Angel) and chose Dark Angel, instead. At the time, Shevaun felt that using a name so similar to Darkangel's might infuriate him, which was her goal.

Shevaun later aided several other heroes in defeating Mys-Tech during the so-called Mys-Tech Wars and then proceeded to aid Death's Head II in repelling the destruction of Earth. She then retreated back to Castle Haldane to focus her studies on the the arcane. It was here that Miracleman came when he was seeking passage into the Realm of Dead Superheroes. Shevaun aided him in this endeavor and the two forged an unlikely friendship that eventually blossomed into love. With Miracleman and Betsy Braddock's assistance, Shevaun became a member of the Pendragons and soon emerged as one of the true stalwarts on the squad [Pendragons # 14]. She entered into a romantic relationship with Miracleman, though it stalled after the arrival of Miraclewoman [Miracles, Inc. # 1].

Ranulph Haldane eventually returned to life with a new master -- the Red Lord of the Bane. This conflict forced Shevaun to deal with lingering relationship issues with her father, but in the end she was forced to slay him [Pendragons # 31-33]. In the aftermath, Shevaun rededicated herself to the Pendragons and remained with them even through her breakup from Miracleman. Her closest friend on the team was Captain Britain (Betsy Braddock), though she also grew closer to Gulliver Jones (Captain Kerosene) after assisting him in becoming a holographic lifeform [Pendragons # 35].

During a trip into outer space, Shevaun decided that she could do more good by remaining outside the Black Mass Barrier [Pendragons # 55-59]. Alongside Breeze and a badly injured Android Andy, Shevaun  joined with many of the world's heroes in attempting to repel the Martian invasion. She also played a key role in reviving Betty Ross Banner [Hulk # 3-4].

While Shevaun was outside the Barrier, a crazed future version of herself journeyed back in time, hoping to destroy the Phoenix Force before it ravaged the universe. This evil version of Dark Angel was eventually killed in battle with the Celtic Phoenix, Rachel Summers and Captain Britain [Pendragons # 64-66]. Shevaun later returned to Britain, rejoining the Pendragons and again proved herself to be an essential member of the team [Pendragons # 81-83]. After the ascension of Betsy Braddock to the throne of Otherworld, Dark Angel took some time away from the Pendragons but has recently returned [Pendragons # 111]
