Captain Kerosene

Real Name: Gulliver "Gully" Jones

Class: Altered Human / Holographic Being

Occupation: Majordomo / Former Adventurer

Affiliations: Member of Pendragons

Scale of Operations: Europe

Powers: Captain Kerosene had pyrokinetic abilities similar to those possessed by the android Human Torch. His powers were considered far too unstable for regular use, but they seem to have stablized over time. He has shown the ability to recover from violent explosions, existing as an ash-being until fully healed. Since his death, he has become a holographic being, tied in to the PLATO computer system at Lyonesse.

History:

A British hero who first became active during World War II, Gulliver Jones ghosted for the Human Torch on several missions and remained a fairly obscure figure to the public at large. He had a brief romance with Jacqueline Falsworth (Spitfire), but the relationship ended badly. He ended up marrying a woman that he described as a saint, but for whom he never had much time. His relationship with his daughter Barbara was similarly strained, as Gulliver constantly strove to prove himself as a hero and neglected his duties as husband and father.

After his marriage dissolved, Kerosene served as an agent for several different government agencies -- including STRIKE, RCX and the Department for Unknown and Covert Knowledge. While involved with the latter he aided Plasmer and Captain Britain in defeating a British Sleeper known as Aftermath.

Some time later, Gulliver was contacted by the Lady of the Lake and infused with the Pendragon spirit. He later approached Union Jack and aided him in defeating Venom, which led Gulliver to join the Pendragons. His somewhat old-fashioned and stuffy approach often led to conflicts within the group, especially with regards to his still-held appreciation for Spitfire, which ruffled Union Jack's feathers. In the end, however, Gulliver and Joey Chapman became true mates and it was Chapman to whom Gulliver confided his awful secret: that he was dying of cancer. Gulliver attempted to mend fences with Barbara, but to little avail.

Dark Angel, however, was not willing to give up so easily. Though stymied in her attempts to cure Gully's condition, she was able to bond his spirit to the sentient hologram known as PLATO, which served as the team's early-warning defense system. Gully has now been reborn in a sense, with his mind opened to a wealth of new information. He is still adjusting to his condition, but is very positive on the whole and has recently begun counseling Spitfire on her unexpected pregnancy.
