History:

Kelsey Leigh and her husband Martin were traveling through the English countryside when the head of a Sentinel robot came crashing down upon their car. The debris had come from a superhero battle miles away, but it was enough to end Martin Leigh's life, scarring Kelsey's face in the process. Amidst the smoke and fire, a woman appeared to Kelsey, offering her the power to resurrect her husband: "My name is Roma, Goddess of the Northern Lights," the woman had said, her voice sounding impossibly sweet. "I offer you a choice... a choice which could save the life of your husband. Choose the Amulet of Right... or the Sword of Might."

Kelsey chose neither, fearing on some primal level that she was not worthy of this offer. Though she did not know it, she was part of a grand genetic scheme authored by Roma and her father, Merlyn. This genetic plan eventually succeeded in creating the true king of Otherworld -- Brian Braddock -- but it also resulted in numerous failures. Kelsey Leigh was one of these. Within her lay the majesty of Otherworld, but it was flawed and full of doubt.

Left alone to raise her son Martin and her daughter Jenny, Kelsey felt ostracized from others by her disfigurement and the shroud of guilt that hung over her. She eventually got a second chance when Roma returned to her, offering her the power once more. Kelsey chose the Sword of Power and became Roma's personal Captain Britain, unscarred and beautiful once more. She served in the role while Betsy Braddock was off-planet with the Pendragons, finding herself greatly enjoying her new power and confidence. She allied herself with Wynter and Cybermancer, both allies of the Pendragons, in an attempt to halt the poisoning of Avalon by Lord Pumpkin... but in their failure, they came upon the truth of the matter: that Roma herself was behind the poisoning and that she hoped that Kelsey Leigh's connection to Otherworld would allow her to usurp the power from Brian Braddock. Kelsey was forced to confront the demon within herself -- the fear and self-loathing that had inhabited her since her husband's death. Defeating it through the strength of her will, Kelsey purged Avalon of the poison's effects and aided the mythical Green Knight in reviving a much-needed champion of the realm: Joey Chapman, aka Union Jack. Once more scarred but now armed with a renewed sense of peace, Kelsey returned home to her children [see Pendragons 54-59.]

Her newfound happiness was short-lived, however, as a shocking revelation threw her for a loop. It was revealed that her children had actually perished in the same accident that claimed the life of her husband, years before. Kelsey herself had been trapped in a magically-induced coma where she believed that her children still lived and had been revived by Roma to serve as a pawn. Distressed but ready to seek out vengeance, Kelsey renamed herself Captain Avalon and joined Dane Whitman's personal squadron, the Knights of Avalon [Knights of Avalon 1.]

Alongside the Knights, Kelsey found friendship with the young heroine Siryn and searched for the heirs of Infinitus. She was also present during the so-called Collision event [Knights of Avalon 2-5]. This period saw her move beyond some of her anger and resentment, finally making peace with the loss of her family.

She has since joined the Pendragons [Pendragons 111]
