Adam Crown

Real Name: Adam Crown

Class: Altered Human

Occupation: Former History Student, Current Adventurer

Affiliations: Member of Pendragons

Scale of Operations: Europe

Powers: The Knights of Pendragon each possess the Champion Spirit of Pendragon – they have heightened abilities, powers and senses which become exaggerated to super-human levels. They are able to tap into the power of the Earth itself, which manifests as a lightning-like energy. Adam's sword -- alternately called Excalibur and Caliburn -- has shown the ability to cleave through magical barriers and may absorb and discharge magical energies. He also uses a shield for protection.

History:

Adam Crown was a student of English history when the Lady of the Lake appeared to him in his shower. She told him that "It is time for the king to ride out once more for the sword of the new dawn." With her guidance, Crown broke into the Musuem of Pagan Antiquities and London and stole a "priceless Iron Age sword." He took the sword to a nearby canal and hurled it in, at which point the Lady of the Lake's hand lifted it (or another sword in its place) back above the surface.

Taking the blade in hand, Adam was eventually brought to Avalon, where the Lady informed him that he was the reincarnation of King Arthur and Adam received an infusion of powerful Pendragon magic from the Green Knight, making him stronger and more agile than before.

Adam came to be a member of the Knights of Pendragon, a group of champions who each held part of the Pendragon power within them. Alongside such heroes as the Union Jack, Albion and Breeze, Adam proved his worth as a hero, eventually sacrificing himself in battle with the evil Red Lord, ruler of the Bane.

He was later resurrected by the Lady of the Lake, who dispatched Adam and Miracleman to assist the Pendragons in repelling an attack by Blackheart. Though the team proved victorious, they failed to prevent him from enclosing most of Europe under what is now called the Black Mass Barrier.

Adam saw himself as the logical successor to Albion as leader of the group, but found that most of his teammates preferred Betsy Braddock, the current Captain Britain. Angered over this, Adam left on a short leave of absence and found a measure of peace after battling Mordred at Glastonbury. Adam also became romantically involved with a young woman named Ginny, another sign that Adam had gained a new maturity.

Things took a downward turn when Jim Jaspers created a new Jaspers Warp around England. In the new Jaspers-created reality, Adam was a close ally of the villain and believed him when he told the Pendragon that his teammates and lover were against him. Adam threw Ginny out of his life and engaged the other Pendragons in open combat. When the truth was told and Brian Braddock had managed to end the Warp, Adam found himself wracked with guilt over his actions. The Pendragons felt they had no choice but to turn him over to the Weird Happenings Organization, in hopes that their psychologists could help him. The doctors did little to help, but Adam found salvation in the form of the Green Knight. The Knight revealed that much of Adam's recent woes were the resultant of a dark spell weaved by Blackheart. With the spell undone, Adam is once again a true servant of Avalon and he has claimed the former Bane stronghold in Darkmoor as his personal kingdom.

Adam has recently made amends with Ginny Halpin and the two were married.
